As part of an early exploration into immersive therapies, I helped lead West Health’s autism research team tested interactive gaming technologies to supplement conventional behavioral therapies. In collaboration with Rady Children’s Hospital, I led and published our 2012–2015 pilot demonstrating that children and their families could engage with and learn from the system at home, without clinician supervision and even showed initial evidence of clinical effectiveness. In September 2015, we formally donated the project’s technical and clinical assets to Northeastern University, where additional research was launched to scale and validate the approach.
